Design Inspiration

The artist has been inspired by the outpouring of community spirit in this lively Manchester suburb. Look out for local favourites and iconic images including Levenshulme Old Library, the market, and the 192 bus. Stripey socks give the Bee a sense of humour and the mirrored eyes reflect the observer, making you part of its story.

The Owl and The Coconut is a not-for-profit community arts organisation based at The Nest in Levenshulme Old Library. It led a series of innovative community consultation events and co-ordinated the huge group effort involved in bringing this Bee to Levenshulme.

This project was made possible by the incredible goodwill of local residents, businesses, traders and ward councillors Dzidra Noor, Basat Sheikh, Bernard Stone and Councillor Luthfer Rahman and is supported by Great Places Housing Group and One Manchester.
