Find & Collect Bees

Select Open Trail on the home screen to use the map; pinch and swipe the map to zoom in and out. Location settings need to be turned ON to see your location on the map. Or go to the Trail tab to access the sculpture listings and search for the sculpture name, artist or location.

Quick Unlock

Enter the 4 digit code found on the sculpture’s plaque to unlock your discovery. There are two ways to enter the code: on the sculpture page or by clicking the unlock icon on the Total tab at the top.

Unlock Rewards

When you find and collect sculptures you can unlock lots of exciting rewards along the way! There are also trophies available when you complete a certain milestones.

Your Stats & Trail Stats

Track your progress around the trail. See how many sculptures you’ve collected, how many rewards and trophies you’ve unlocked and what percentage of the trail you’ve covered. Plus you can see the most voted and most visited sculptures across the entire trail.

Bee Gallery

Upload your photos to our Bee Gallery. Images uploaded will be vetted by the Bee in the City team prior to being published. Your photo will be seen by other app players and can be shared on social media. So get creative!

Ocean Outdoor's Big Screens

We’ve teamed up with Ocean Outdoor to broadcast selfies across the city! Upload your best Bee selfie and your Twitter handle and you could ‘bee’ on the big screen.

Well Pharmacy's Pedometer

Stay fit and keep well, track your distance, steps and time on the trail using our handy pedometer sponsored by Well Pharmacy.

From Feel Good Fridays to the Bee in the City Weekender there’s something for everyone. Visit the Events section to stay in the know.

Bring Buzzi to life

Buzzi is Manchester’s one and only augmented reality (AR) Bee. Find Buzzi in the app. Input the 4 digit code on Buzzi’s plaque to unlock. Hold your device to the hive and launch the AR camera to bring Buzzi to life.

Like Buzzi, please be aware of your surroundings and other Bee spotters.

App FAQ’s

I’m having problems signing in.

Check you’re connected to the internet, either WiFi or a mobile network.

Make sure you have the latest update installed on your device.

Close the app completely and re-open it (or restart your device).

Finally review the app permissions and ensure everything is checked.

Fill in your email and age details. You should get through to the Contact Preferences and Terms and Conditions screen. Make sure you read and agree to the Ts & Cs to continue.

Still no luck? Please email our app support team at Mediaworks using wia@mediaworks.co.uk with the following:

  • make and model of your phone,
  • the version of android you’re running (if applicable)
  • the email address you’re using to register
  • and a loose indication of the time the error occurred

and they’ll get back to you as soon as they can.

Network Error and I can’t unlock the Bees.

If you’re experiencing problems accessing or unlocking the Bees and/or have the Network Error on your app we’re sorry and thank you for your patience. We have now made some updates to our app. If you are experiencing any performance issues, to fix these, please make sure you have the latest update installed on your device.

How do I find the sculptures?

How do I unlock a sculpture?

There is a 4 digit code found on the sculpture’s plaque. There are two ways to unlock it on the app. You can do a Quick Unlock by clicking on the unlock icon on the Total tab at the top of the screen and entering the code there. Or you can enter the code on the sculpture page.

How do I add a photo to the Gallery?

You can upload a photo to the app Gallery by clicking Upload. You’ll be asked to either Take a photo or Choose from library. Images uploaded will be vetted by the Bee in the City team prior to being published on the app. Your photo will be seen by other app players and can be shared on social media. So get creative!

How do I submit a photo to feature on the Big Screen?

Upload your photo to the Bee Gallery, then enter your Twitter handle and click submit. The Bee in the City team and Ocean Outdoor will select the best bee selfies for feature on Ocean Outdoor’s digital display screens across Manchester city. We’ll even send you a tweet of your selfie on the big screen in case you missed it!

How do I bring Buzzi the AR Bee to life?

Buzzi is Manchester’s one and only augmented reality (AR) Bee. Buzzi is a busy bee and doesn’t stay still for long, will you be lucky enough to catch a snap?

  • Find Buzzi in the app
  • Input the 4 digit code on Buzzi’s plaque to unlock
  • Stand close to the hive where marked on the floor
  • Hold your device to the hive and launch the AR camera to bring Buzzi to life
  • Catch a snap, upload to our gallery and share @beeinthecitymcr #beeinthecity

Incorrect codes

If you’ve already unlocked a sculpture the app will display an incorrect code message. Check your sculpture listing pages to see if you have already collected it. If not, it could be an error we need to fix – gulps! So please let us know the code and bear by emailing at hello@beeinthecitymcr.co.uk.

Do I need to fill in all the sign up fields?

No. You only need to fill in the fields marked with an asterisk (*).

  1. Name – We use this to identify you.
  2. Email – Your email address allows you to login to your app account. It also enables us identify your account and communicate with you if you require support. If you consent to email communications on the app’s Contact Preferences screen we’ll add this email address to the mailing list.
  3. Postcode – We’ll use this for our event evaluation. (Don’t worry we’ll never sell your info to third parties).
  4. Age – We’ll use this for event evaluation and to determine if we can stay in touch. If you’re under 16, we’re sorry but you’ll need to wait another year before you can join the mailing list.
  5. Group Size – We’ll use this for our event evaluation. (Don’t worry we’ll never sell your info to third parties).

At the end of the trail your sculptures, rewards and voting stats will be anonymised and used for event evaluation purposes only. If you do not wish your anonymised stats to be used in event evaluation you can opt-out in writing to marketing@wildinart.co.uk.

How long do you keep my personal information?

App Players – We keep your personal information for 6 months following the end of the art trail/event auction. After which Wild in Art will promptly and securely anonymise the app data.

Mailing List – Consenting app players will be added to Wild in Art’s mailing list. You may unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time, just follow the instructions in those messages. If you unsubscribe from the mailing list, we may still send you other messages, like those about your account and legal notices.

Your Photos & Ocean Outdoor – You bear sole responsibility for the photos which you choose to post on the app. By posting photos, you are warranting that you have the permission and authority to do so and that, you understand the public will see it and may use/share that content. In posting photos to the app, and or, by submitting your photo and twitter handle for the chance to be featured on one or more of Ocean Outdoors public digital displays you grant Wild in Art and Ocean Outdoor an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive, worldwide, transferable licence to publish, display, copy, modify, create derivative works from and distribute the photos on the service. You’re also granting us the licence to use the photos in any way for the purpose of publicising the service and to grant sub-licences on the same basis.
