Big Bees

The artist ran a series of workshops at Manchester Youth Zone. The group talked about the iconic tiles on the building, a rainbow representing hope for the future and the place where they lived. Ultimately though it was the young people themselves that were the story. Their life-affirming energy and love for Harpurhey is reflected in this design and in the Bee’s name.

The Manchester Youth Zone provides a unique safe place for young people from across Manchester. Young people take part in a huge range of sports and creative activities. It works closely with its members to raise their aspirations and offers targeted support to provide additional help to those who need it.
