Big Bees

Peter Davis is a prize-winning artist and elected member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. The Bee’s hand-painted design is made up of an abundance of brightly coloured flowers, attracting bees to their pollen. Flora features a strawberry design on her face, pretty asters for eyes, and sits proudly on two huge sunflowers. Look out for baby sister Fauna inside the Dower house.

The MDBKA has been promoting the art of beekeeping since 1895. This venerable institution is based here, at Heaton Park. There is an apiary, a shop and an observation hive where you can watch the bees going about their business. The Association has trained many of the beekeepers across the city and runs beginners’ courses for members of the public.
