Manchester born artist Sarah Connell paints evocative landscapes and cityscapes which are often of Manchester and the North West. Sarah studied Art History at Nottingham University, and Clothing Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. She has worked as a designer and as a photographer, using these roles to feed into her artwork.
Since starting her Instagram account, @connellpaintings, Sarah has been amazed at the heartfelt and encouraging messages about her artwork, particularly so over lockdown when many Mancunians were missing being able to visit the city centre.
Sarah paints both digitally and in traditional media, using each method of painting to influence the other. Sarah’s paintings are distinctive in their painterly brushwork and atmospheric light. They are a fusion of representation and imagination. Of her artwork Sarah says: “My paintings appear to be of a place, but they are also a record of how I felt whilst painting that scene. That is what a painting does…it conveys a feeling that words cannot.”
