Peter Davis is a professional figurative painter. In 2017 he was shortlisted by the country’s leading art magazine for Artist of the Year and, so far this year, he has been shortlisted in the International Contemporary Arts competition, the Aesthetica Art Prize and been chosen a prizewinner in the 2018 Greater Manchester Arts Prize (judges included Alistair Hudson, Director of Manchester Art Gallery and The Whitworth).
Peter is a social realist painter whose aim is to create contemporary portraiture that tells stories about his sitters. The titles of his paintings play off the composition with the aim of giving the viewer clues to a deeper narrative. The more you look at his work, the more unfolds from what might at first seem to be a straightforward painting. “The B’s of Manchester” is a recent example of one of his narrative portraits.
