Help protect our Bees by building a Bee Hotel
Bees don’t just make honey! They also play a really important role as pollinators. By moving pollen from one part of a plant to another, bees help the plants to reproduce and make the fruits or seeds that we like to eat.
In fact, we depend on bees to produce a third of our food: without them we wouldn’t have apples, tomatoes, grapes, strawberries, cashew nuts, coffee or even chocolate!
Bees used to do their important work in the countryside, but industrial farming, climate change and loss of habitat has made this harder. This means that more and more bees now live in towns and cities like Manchester.
You can help protect our bee population, and our food supply, by building a ‘Bee Hotel’ for bees to nest in.

Tag a picture of your finished Bee Hotel using the hashtag #STEMBeeHotel on Twitter or Instagram and you will be entered into a Prize Draw to win a pocket habitat, plus some bee-friendly flowers to plant in it. (Competition terms and conditions enclosed.)
